Serving as a Staff Officer in Colonel Durnford's column, Maryon is thrust into the brutal reality of the conflict, including the devastating British defeat at Isandhlwana. Ronald Welch, a Carnegie Medal-winning author known for his meticulous military accuracy, provides a vivid and harrowing account of Victorian warfare, tribal bravery, and the harsh realities of colonial service. The book is enhanced by detailed maps and illustrations by David Harris that bring the tactical movements and landscapes of the Zululand campaign to life.
